Are you looking for Dyson vacuums with replaceable batteries? Let’s talk about that.
Let’s be honest, buying a Dyson isn’t exactly the cheapest hoover on the market to go for.
They can get pretty pricey, and quick- especially when you consider their relatively limited run time.
If you are planning on upgrading your existing Dyson, or you are looking to get some extra batteries to increase the run time of your Dyson, then you’ll want to know exactly what models allow replacement batteries.
Technology breaks. It’s an unfortunate reality and sometimes you’ll need to get a replacement.
Even for something that should be pretty hard-wearing like a Dyson.
Luckily, almost all of the Dyson cordless vacuums actually have replaceable batteries.
That is a huge relief for those of us who don’t want to splurge on a new vac.
Not only does Dyson have a large range of cordless vacuums with replaceable batteries, but did you know that many of them are actually interchangeable?
This is seriously great if you want to upgrade your vacuum from your existing cordless Dyson, or you want to get another one for your home.
This way you can share your batteries, and have a longer run time too if one of your batteries needs charging.
In this article, we’ll be running through all of the models that have replaceable batteries, and we’ll be looking at what models can even share batteries!
Let’s get into it.
Which Dyson Cordless Vacuums Have Replaceable Batteries?
Select the correct battery for your cordless vacuum below.
Only by using genuine Dyson parts and accessories are you ensuring your cordless vacuum works as intended.
Using imitation Dyson parts may result in your warranty becoming invalid.
Every cordless Dyson vacuum currently on the market actually can have its battery replaced.
This is great news as there are some seriously expensive vacuums in these ranges, and not being able to replace the batteries on them would be pretty awful.

Which Dyson Cordless Vacuums Have Interchangeable Batteries?
So, can you use any of the batteries between models? Okay, this is a little more complex than a simple yes or no.
As the batteries and technology of the Dyson range increase and expand, the batteries increase with it.
You may be thinking that ‘oh great, I can put in a V15 battery into my V8 and get it to run better.’ Unfortunately, that’s not quite the case.
What you can do however is use the batteries between the same series of vacuums.
For example, if you have a V10 Absolute in your downstairs and a V10 Animal in your upstairs cupboard, you could switch a battery between them, or charge them up whilst you use the other one without any issues whatsoever.
Here are also some Dyson batteries that do work across series:
Replacement Dyson V15 Detect™ Vacuum Battery
Compatible with:
- Dyson V15 Detect™ vacuum
- Dyson Outsize cord-free vacuum
Replacement Dyson Micro 1.5Kg™ Vacuum Battery
Compatible with:
- Dyson Micro 1.5kg™ vacuum
- Dyson Humdinger vacuum
Another point to mention is that you can get unbranded batteries that are interchangeable between a much larger range of vacuum models.
For specific requirements, you should look at your existing battery in your Dyson and make sure it’s of the same specs.
You can do this by checking out the specifications on unbranded batteries online such as in the Amazon description boxes.
It’s really important to note that using an unbranded battery in your Dyson can void the warranty, though if your warranty has already lapsed and you’re looking to increase the lifespan of your Dyson, you should check out customer and user reviews to make sure the battery manufacturer actually fits in your model properly and works safely.
Batteries are very delicate and can be dangerous so be sure that you are choosing one responsibly and not just going for the cheapest one that you can find.
How Long Do Dyson Batteries Last?
Having your expensive Dyson die on you can be a massive pain.
Whether it’s brand new or a good few years old, it’s always a good idea to know how long you can expect the battery to hold up.
Well, the truth is that it varies quite a lot. On average, you should expect your Dyson brand name battery to last around 4 years without any issues.
However, it’s important to note that Dysons use Lithium batteries, which can be temperamental after even one year of use!
So, if you notice any dramatic dip in power whilst your Dyson is still in warranty (usually 24 months) you should take it back to your supplier and demand a new battery before it gets any worse.
Fees for replacement parts and fixing can be seriously high after the warranty has ended so make sure you don’t miss your opportunity.
One of the main things that will affect your overall battery life is the way that you use your Dyson.
Here are a few things to try and avoid to make your battery last that little bit longer:
- Running it hot – Temperature plays a big role in the quality of your battery. If you store your battery at too high or too low a temperature, it can damage its ability to charge, and hold power. Likewise, if you notice that your battery is becoming hot during use, let it cool down completely before starting it up again.
- Not letting it fully empty – You should let your battery drain completely every once in a while to maintain its ability to fully charge
- Not giving it a break – If you use your vacuum every day, maybe give it a break every once in a while to save the motor and give it a chance to rest.
- Always using Max Power mode – As handy as the maximum power feature is, it isn’t designed to be used throughout your whole vacuuming session. Using it all the time will not only decrease the time that you can spend vacuuming on one battery charge, but it’ll also wear out your battery far quicker as well. Instead, try and only use the max power mode for those small tricky spots every once in a while.

Final Thoughts
There you have it, you can use Dyson branded batteries across all the models in the same series, but apart from one or two exceptions, you won’t be able to use them across multiple series.
However, you can get unbranded or unofficial lithium batteries that fit into more than one Dyson cordless vacuum.
Bear in mind that using one of these batteries will void your warranty.
