Wall Mount For A Dyson Cordless Vacuum – Is It Necessary?

Did you get yourself a Dyson cordless vacuum and now wonders if you need a wall mount? Let’s talk about that.

Cordless stick vacuums are fantastic if you have limited space, with the compact body allowing the vacuum to slip into tight corners.

Unfortunately, the top-heavy design tends to mean when in the corner, the vacuum falls over.

Wall mounting your Dyson is a quick and simple solution, keeping your vacuum in easy reach and preventing damage from falls.

Most Dyson cordless stick vacuums include a wall mount, which should be installed near a socket.

Does A Dyson Cordless Vacuum Need A Wall Mount?

A Dyson cordless stick vacuum doesn’t necessarily need a wall mount, but they do tend to make it easier to store your vacuums.

Stick vacuums are fantastic because the slim designs take up limited space. However, as they don’t have the stable body of upright vacuums, they do have a tendency to fall over when in storage.

Depending on your storage solution, you might find this isn’t a problem, and the vacuum slips easily into your chosen space.

For the rest of us, the slim profile stick vacuum ends up taking extra space, because it won’t stop tipping over.

The problem is worse if you’ve chosen a cordless vacuum. There will be times when it can’t be kept in a cupboard because the vacuum needs charging.

So, even if you have the perfect storage solution, every time your Dyson needs charging, you’re back at square one.

For these reasons, many Dyson owners prefer to wall mount their stick vacuums.

It’s quicker and easier, and you won’t have to deal with a vacuum falling on your foot every time you open a cupboard door.

Why Wall Mount A Dyson Cordless Stick Vacuum?

Wall mounting a Dyson cordless stick vacuum might seem like an inessential extra step if you think you’ve sorted your storage system, but there are a couple of reasons why we think you should try it out.

Reasons to Wall Mount a Dyson Cordless Vacuum

  • A wall mount stops your Dyson from falling over. Stick vacuums are often top-heavy, and lack a stable base. This leads to them falling over a lot, which is incredibly frustrating, and risk damage.
  • The accessories can be stored together. Accessories aid the functionality of the vacuum, but they can’t always be stored on the stick body. With a wall mount, you can add hooks and shelves to keep all the parts together.
  • Charging is easier. Set up your wall mount by a socket to start charging as soon as you finish cleaning. That way, next time you want to vacuum, you won’t be foiled by a dead battery.
  • Charging becomes safer. Without a wall mount, you might find your cable stretching across the floor. Not only does this create a trip hazard, but it puts strain on the cable, potentially leading to breakages.
  • A wall mount saves floor space. Many of us choose the cordless stick vacuum because they’re small and lightweight. A wall mount allows you to make the most of these properties, by taking the vacuum off the floor. Take advantage of limited closet space by mounting your Dyson on the back of the door.
  • It looks better. Vacuum cleaners are rarely a design feature, but the handy wall mount helps the Dyson to integrate with the space. It will look neater, and you can design a wall mount that matches your décor.
  • Cleaning is easier. Rather than having to fetch the Dyson from whichever storage place you’ve hidden it, the wall mount grants you immediate access for easier cleaning.
  • A wall mount can even remind you to clean. When the vacuum is tucked in a closet, it can be a case of ‘out of sight, out of mind’. But with a wall mount, it’s harder to forget about this important task.

So, there are many reasons why you might choose to wall mount your Dyson cordless stick vacuum!

Does A Dyson Cordless Vacuum Need A Wall Mount?

Do Dyson Cordless Vacuums Come With A Wall Mount?

New Dyson cordless and stick model vacuums typically come with either a docking station, wall mount, or both.

Older cordless models might not include the wall mount, and corded stick models won’t include a docking station.

However, for the most part, a Dyson cordless stick vacuum will come with a way of mounting.

The included wall mounts need to be drilled into the wall, and Dyson includes instructions on how to do it. They should be installed next to a socket, so you can easily charge the Dyson in storage.

DIY Dyson Wall Mount

The included Dyson wall mount is an excellent way to store your Dyson, but it does come with a slight drawback. In order to use the mount, you have to drill a hole in the wall.

This might not be an option if you live in a rental property.

However, it’s pretty easy to DIY your own Dyson wall mount.

What You Need

– Dyson docking station

– 2 x 4 wood fence post

– 2 x 4 adjustable bracket set (such as these brackets from Labrico)

– 1 ½ inch wood screw (x 2)

– Drill

– Metal hooks

– Wood stain

– Sandpaper

What To Do

  1. Begin by choosing a place to set up the wall mount. It should be close to a socket, and easy to access.
  2. Measure the distance from floor to ceiling, to calculate the size of wooden post needed. Cut your post to this size, minus the length of the adjustable bracket.
  3. Sand and stain the wood post, and leave to dry. This isn’t necessary, but it does help with the overall appearance.
  4. Mark where on the wood post you want the docking station to be. It has to be high enough for the Dyson not to be trailing the ground, without stretching the charging cable.
  5. Align the docking station with these marks, and create a mark where the screw holes will be. Drill pilot holes.
  6. Draw around the square at the bottom of the docking station, between the attachment holders. Drill a hole through the center of the square using a ¾ inch paddle drill bit.
  7. Feed the cord through the hole, and align with the back of the docking center.
  8. Line the docking station with the holes already made, and attach to the post using the wood screws in the pilot holes.
  9. Attach the adjustable brackets to the top and bottom of your post, and lift the post into place. The top bracket is adjustable, allowing you to change the tension for the right height. Use a spirit level to ensure accuracy.
  10. Attach any hooks necessary for holding attachments.

Freestanding Stations

For a simple solution with no DIY, you can purchase a freestanding Dyson docking station, such as this one from FOHO.
