Cleaning Your V10 Dyson Filter
Unlike the V7 and V8 series, the Dyson V10 series, along with its more powerful siblings in the V11 and V15 series, utilizes only one filter as opposed to separate pre and post filters.
This means that your job is even easier, as you only have to locate and clean a single unit — lucky you!

Here’s how it’s done.
Turning Off Your Dyson V10
First thing’s first; make sure your vacuum is powered down. This may seem like an obvious step, but you’d be surprised how easy it is to forget to shut a vacuum off before getting started, and this can potentially damage both the filter and the vacuum itself.
As the V10 series is composed of cordless units exclusively, you don’t have to worry about switching off outlets but do ensure that the cable connecting it to the charging port is disconnected.
Don’t worry about turning the vacuum itself off either, as V10 series hoovers are only activated when the trigger is pulled. Avoid the trigger, and, technically, it’s powered down.
Once you’re ready to move on to the next step, remove the wand section of the hoover and place the remaining machine on a stable, flat surface.
Locating & Removing The V10 Filter
Now’s the time to locate that filter of yours and extract it from the vacuum. On all V10, V11, and V15 units, the filter can be found in the same place.
It will be integrated into the cylindrical enclosure above the handle and trigger.
Secured in place by a latching system, you can’t simply pull it from the main enclosure. Instead, firmly grasp the end of the cylinder, and turn it clockwise gently.
You don’t need to put too much mustard on it; a slight turn roughly two inches to the left should uncouple the filter. Then you can pull it free from the machine.
Washing The Filter
Take your newly recovered filter and head to a sink of your choice. You could also use an exterior faucet if need be. As long as it runs cold, it should be fine.
Before you get rinsing, grab your filter and tap it on a rigid surface to try and knock loose some of the bulkier debris, as this will speed up the cleaning process a great deal.
You should tap firmly, but not so hard that you’ll damage the enclosure of the filter or that the vibrations will damage the interior plastic.
Once you’ve tapped as much debris loose as you can, turn on the faucet, and run the cold water through the filter and against all its surfaces.
Every 10 seconds or so, tap the filter on a hard surface to try and remove more detritus. Repeat this two-stage process until the water draining from the filter runs clear.
Drying The Filter
Drying your filter is the easiest yet longest step on the path to a fully functioning Dyson V10. Simply pick out a safe spot to place it to air dry.
This spot should be relatively warm, with decent airflow to facilitate a quick drying process.
In optimal conditions, your V10 filter should be fully dry after a 24-hour waiting period.
Reassembly
Sure your filter is completely dry? Fantastic, all you need to do now is install it back into the vacuum by placing it flush against the connective zone and turning clockwise gently until you hear an affirmative click, and voilà; job done!
