1. Dismantle Vacuum
Whether the model is the Motorhead, Animal or Fluffy variants of the V7 they will all still be made of the same compartments.
To begin, start by separating each compartment and picking up the main drive head, this is often a bit more of a challenge to clean than the brushes.
2. Clean The Main Drive Head
First, make sure you have a flathead screwdriver and place it into the side hole of the drive head, twist it and pull it out.
The purple cylinder will slide out, allowing you to brush away any debris or hair that has stuck to it.
Make sure to also look through the inside of the tube and brush away any dirt. Keep in mind this purple cylinder is different to the one found in the filter later on.
3. Clean Bottom Compartment Of The Drive Head
Then, use the screwdriver again on the drive head, this time on the screw hole in the bottom left corner.
After a few clicks, the plastic casing of the head will be removed, simply use a dry cloth to dry off the inside of the head.
4. Empty Out Any Dirt
Now to clean the vacuum itself, you will want to firstly empty the bin with the incredibly efficient eject feature of the D7.
To activate this, simply hold the vacuum above a bin and pull the red looking button near the top for all of the dirt to eject at the bottom.
5. Separate Filter And Bin Compartments
Once all dirt is removed, you will want to further take apart the vacuum by holding the purple circular filter compartment at the top and pressing in the red buttons located just behind it.
While pressed down, this top compartment will slide off.
You will then want to remove the bin at the bottom through a similar process of pressing in a red button hidden behind it and it will easily clip off.
6. Rinse Bin
Rinse the bin under some warm water, while doing this just be careful not to get the red contacts at the top wet as it can cause some technical complications when you are using the vacuum in the future.
Allow the bin to dry preferably overnight, or for at least a few hours in the day before using the vacuum.
7. Clean Out Filter
Next, clean out the filter. Get the purple filter located on the top of the vacuum and pull out the purple cylinder in the middle, rinse this with warm water and leave to dry preferably overnight.
For the filter itself, at the bottom will be a circular shape where dust has accumulated.
Simply give this and the surrounding area a decent brush and use a damp cloth for some extra cleanliness.
8. Take Apart Filter (Optional)
Brushing the purple filter is usually enough to make it efficient, however you can also loosen the several screws surrounding the filter and brush these parts too to make it as clean as possible.
This is usually not necessary, but can be a good idea if you feel like your vacuum is very dirty after seeing much use or if the dirt is causing complications when you use the vacuum.
Just be warned that loosening the screws and taking apart the filter can invalidate the Dyson warranty due to it being easy to damage or commodify the product in a way that is not intended.
