One of the most common questions we get, and may often surprise people, is how to turn on Dyson vacuums.
Yet, for some it is not the easiest or most user-friendly vacuum on the market, today we will guide you to using your Dyson vacuum with little to no effort.
Before we get started, it is worth noting that there are many models of Dyson vacuum available on the market today, and whilst we cannot go through every single variation, we will cover the most common models available.
The good news is that many models will have the same setup and location as the power button, which will make things easier for you.
Dyson Cyclone V10 Cordless Vacuum
This model of Dyson is a cordless one that often comes with a number of attachments, which can make setting up an installation a lot more complicated for those that just simply want to get going with their vacuum cleaner.
You will likely also receive a wand, crevice tool, combination tool, all, and a motorhead, as well as the base machine.
Also depending on the model that you have selected, you may receive a soft roller cleaner head, a wide nozzle tool, soft dusting brush, up-top adaptor, and mini motorhead.
Here are the steps to get going with your V10 Cordless Vacuum.
Before starting the steps, it might be worth considering activating your guarantee by taking the serial number on the manual and logging on to your account.
- Attach the wand to the bin assembly. From here, you can attach the cleaner head.
- Make sure that you charge the machine before using it beforehand. We recommend that you do this before using the plug directly into the main body for using the docking station.

- Then push the jack cover down which will secure the plug.
- Next, you will need to locate the front casing into the back plate, once you have done this push firmly to secure it.
- Charging will take on average around 3 and 1/2 hours. to make sure that it is fully charged you can see three solid lights which will represent a full charge, and what is helpful is that it will turn off once fully charged.
- When you are ready to begin vacuuming, remove the vacuum from the charger, and select the mode you wish to vacuum at. It will automatically be set to Maximum suction when out of the box.
- To start the vacuum, simply pull gently on the trigger which is located by the handle. This will power on the vacuum and allow you to begin vacuuming your surfaces.
Dyson Small Ball Upright Vacuum
Next up with have a more conventional vacuum cleaner, that is suited for more powerful jobs that cover a greater distance and surface area:
- This model will usually come in parts, and you will need to manually insert the machine into the cleaner head. Ensure that the front of the machine is clicked into place, which should be recognized with an audible click.
- Next, slide the tool holder which will slot into the back of the machine. Please note that Dyson has created this so that it is not meant to be removed.
- You will then want to attach the stair and combination tools to the holder and slide the wand into the hose.
- Simply push the handle down until the red button clicks into the main bulk of the vacuum.
- Get some power by plugging the machine into power output.
- In order to use the vacuum cleaner, you will need to slide the one upwards by pulling on the handle and then simply switching the vacuum on or off which is located at the red power button. This button can be located towards the top of the vacuum just below the handle.
Dyson V8 Cordless Vacuum
Similar to the V10, the Dyson V8 allows for a cordless vacuum which is more efficient for hard-to-reach places and generally smaller surface areas.
Also Similar to the V10, your V8 model may also come with a number of additional attachments that can be inserted into the machine or in the same way as many of the cordless vacuum models in the Dyson range.
- First, attach the ones to the assembly, and then NH ensures that you insert the main clean ahead to the base model.
- The power mode can be operated by locating the switch at the top of the vacuum cleaner. From here you can select the power you would like to use, and for the most effective vacuum cleaning, we recommend the max mode position.
- To turn off the max mode, simply push the switch back to the powerful suction mode option.
- To start the vacuum, you will simply pull gently on the trigger which is located by the handle. This will power on the vacuum and allow you to begin vacuuming your surfaces.
Can’t Turn On Dyson Vacuums – Why Is It Happening?
If your Dyson vacuum is not turning on, there are a number of steps you can take to rectify the situation.
The First thing to check is whether your vacuum is charged enough, as many times your Dyson vacuum will be out of juice and will therefore need to be plugged into a power socket to be charged.
Also, make sure that you are either pressing the button hard enough or that you are continually squeezing the button in for the cordless models.
Sometimes it may just be a case that you are lifting your finger off of the trigger which is cutting off the power.
