Vax Vs. Dyson? Who wins? Let’s find out.
Everyone knows that Dyson is in the lead when it comes to manufacturing, especially vacuums.
However, purchasing an appliance with their name on it comes at a hefty price, and there are many other companies out there who do just as good of a job and are able to sell their items for a fraction of the price.
Vax is another company that manufactures household cleaning appliances, and their vacuum range is also very highly regarded.
This may have you contemplating which company to go for. Do you choose the reputable company but end up spending a lot?
Or, do you go for another good company, saving some money in the process, but are you missing out on some high-quality tech?
This article is going to be reviewing two different vacuums. One by Vax, and one by Dyson.
While these products aren’t the newest, they are still very popular among consumers, and we’ll be discussing the different aspects of them, so you can make an informed decision.
We will be looking at the Dyson V8 Animal, and the Vax Blade 32V 2.
Vax Vs. Dyson Stick Vacuums
Design And Weight
All cordless vacuums in the Dyson range have a stick design.
This keeps them lightweight and also allows them to detach from the main head, allowing you to use it as a handheld vacuum.
The Vax Blade 2 is similar in design to the Dyson. It also has a stick that is lightweight and can detach from the body.
It also has a pivoting floor head, as does the Dyson, and this makes it very easy to push around all areas of your home that you are cleaning.
However, there is an advantage to the Vax Blade 2. It has LED thumb buttons that are very easy to reach, as opposed to the buttons on the Dyson.
Aside from this, the Dyson requires you to constantly hold down a trigger button as you clean, whereas the Vax Blade 2 has a single on/off button.
Many people find holding down the trigger button tiring, especially during long cleaning sessions.
When it comes to their weight, both vacuums are considerably light, with the Dyson weighing around 2.61 kg and the Vax weighing slightly more at 3.1 kg, but the difference is barely noticeable.
Both vacuums are perfect for longer cleaning periods, and reaching up to ceilings to clear up any cobwebs and such due to their lightweight design.
With regard to dust capacity, the Vax Blade has a larger canister at 0.6 liters, compared to the Dyson V8 which has a 0.54 liter canister.
However, in order for the vacuums to work to their highest potential, their canisters must be emptied regularly. This is the case with all cordless vacuum cleaners.
Dust Emptying
There is a significant difference between the two vacuums when it comes to the bin design.
As mentioned, this needs to be emptied regularly in order for the vacuum to work properly.
The Vax has a bin that is horizontal, and it can be removed entirely in order to empty it.
This is very convenient and allows for easier cleaning of the interior of the machine.
However, the Dyson V8 has a bin that can’t be removed as easily, and lies vertical.
Despite this, it has a hygienic emptying system where a silicon collar pushes out the dirt and dust, so you don’t need to rely on gravity to do the work.
Despite the lack of ease in removing the bin, the silicon collar makes it much easier to clean than the Vax.
Cleaning Performance
Both vacuums perform very well when it comes to their cleaning performance.
While the Dyson V8 has a little more power, the Vax still performs very well, and it is at a much lower price than the Dyson.
Below is a break-down of how each machine performs on different floors.
Floor Cleaning
When it comes to carpeted floors, the Vax is the better option.
It is very good at reaching the deep fibers in the carpet and is an excellent vacuum for thick-pile as well as thin-pile carpets.
The Dyson V8 is not far behind though, and it is also very powerful and effective at cleaning carpets, but the Vax has a slight upper-hand when it comes to this kind of flooring.
In regard to hard floors, the Dyson V8 may be the better choice due to the strong suction power and floor head design.
These aspects make the Dyson very effective in picking up all kinds of debris and dirt from hard floors.
The Vax is also very good at cleaning hard floors, however, and it also has an LED light on the floor tool.
This makes it easier to see any dirty spots you might have otherwise missed.
Pet Hair
The Dyson V8 is the winner when it comes to getting rid of pet hair.
Its direct-drive floor head is what does the trick, and the machine doesn’t need to be working on Max for it to do a tremendous job.
Its turbo tool is also very useful if you’re dealing with pet hair, and enables you to remove it from other hard to reach locations.
The Vax Blade 2 is also effective at removing pet hair due to the powered brush bar.
This is great at getting deep into the carpet fibers, and although it hasn’t got the features mentioned above, it still does the job for a relatively lower price.
Battery
Both machines have relatively similar run-times when they are using the standard mode.
However, the minute you activate the boost suction or use the motorized brush bar, the battery drains much faster.
However, when it comes to using both machines on boost mode, the Vax Blade 2 is the better option as it can last 15 minutes on this mode, whereas the Dyson can only be used for 7 minutes when the tools are attached and boost mode is on.
Filtration
Dyson are known for including HEPA filters in their machines, which are very good at trapping harmful particles.
The V8 is no exception when it comes to this, and therefore, the Dyson is the winner when it comes to filtration.
The Vax Blade 2 does have a washable filter that can remove 99% of dust, but it is still no match for the HEPA filter in the Dyson.
Therefore, if you are someone who suffers from allergies, the Dyson is the better choice.
Final Thoughts – Vax Vs. Dyson
While there are many models of vacuum cleaners in the Dyson and Vax market, this article has chosen two popular ones in order to compare their design, features, and usability.
In many ways, the two vacuum cleaners are just as good as each other.
They are both lightweight, easy to use, and have a tremendous cleaning performance. However, there are aspects where they differ.
As mentioned already, the battery life of the Vax vacuum is slightly better than the Dyson, however, the filtration efficiency of the Dyson is much better, especially if you or anyone in your household suffers from allergies.
We hope this article has given you a good insight into the two brands!
